perlmutter, ed_1There’s still no word on which Democrat will enter the governor’s race in the wake of Bill Ritter’s announcement last week that he won’t seek a second term.

National Journal’s Hotline OnCall hears that ex-House Speaker Andrew Romanoff’s supporters want him to abandon his bid against U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. Dems in Colorado and Washington “have tried endlessly to find a place for Romanoff that’s anywhere but the primary against Bennet.”

Yet, there’s also some talk that U.S. Representatives Diana DeGette and Betsy Markey are looking at the prospect, along with state Treasurer Cary Kennedy.

All of that said, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper is the force with which to be reckoned since receiving some support from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and President Barack Obama. ColoradoPols finds plenty of signs that Hickenlooper will go for it.

As for Congressman Ed Perlmutter (pictured), count him out. He’s flattered to be considered but is enjoying representing the Seventh District so much he’s going to stay focused there (via 7News).
