Wind TurbineLooks like Vestas Wind Systems, the Belgian wind-turbine maker, will be able to put those hundreds of employees who were training back in December to work. While the company released its 2010 outlook this week, reflecting lower sales estimates, it also announced a request for 33 wind turbines that will probably be made in Colorado plants, reports The Pueblo Chieftain. “We’re really excited and it’s our expectation that it [the tower work] is coming to Pueblo,” says Tony Knopp, general manager of the Pueblo plant. “We’re excited to see trends that the market may be picking up.” The news isn’t all rosy for Vestas, however. The sales and service arm of the company, Vestas Americas, cut 114 positions earlier this week—six percent of its North American work force—because of softening demand for renewable energy projects, writes OregonLive.com. There were cuts at the North American headquarters in Portland, says Aili Jokela, the firm’s vice president of communications, who adds that none of the layoffs will hit Vestas’ factories in Colorado.
