Usually, baking at high altitude gives one pause, but not Jill and Jim Pomeroy, owners of Aspen BrownieWorks. Instead, they’ve made it their business to turn out delectable brownies at almost 8,000 feet.

The Aspen company (formerly Cloud Nine Brownies) has been selling its fudgy treats since 2004. And the flavors—chocolate chip, espresso-dark chocolate, peanut butter, raspberry, toffee, and walnut-caramel—have garnered quite a following.

To wit: The sweets, which are made from fresh eggs and butter, Ghirardelli, and pure cane sugar, were ranked as a favorite in the USA Today nationwide brownie taste test. Our top pick is the rich, decadent, chewy and crunchy walnut-caramel.

With ski season winding down, now’s the time to indulge at Aspen BrownieWorks’ cafe, at the base of Aspen Highlands. Or order a box of goodies online.
