Fashion’s current love affair with all things utilitarian is the theme of the magazine’s trend page this month. Taking influences from military and safari wear, the look covers everything from cargo harem pants to khaki field jackets. So it’s no surprise that we’ve fallen for Vail designer and artist Michael Friedberg’s messenger bags. Working with drab olive canvas, Friedberg paints each one individually with personalities and objects that inspire him. A former U.S. Ski Team member (and current coach), Friedberg’s self-starter attitude comes from his skateboarding past and interest in graffiti artists like Banksy, Dolk, Nick Walker, and Swoon. Although Friedberg’s bags attract the most attention, his custom work includes everything from fine art to clothing—and even a motorcycle. $125, 303-579-8407 or michael@idiomsweatshop.com
