Senate Race 2010: How Jim DeMint Can Help Ken Buck

By |

It seems Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck’s paltry campaign finances may soon trod luckily into windfall territory. Buck, whose spirited Republican campaign for U.S. Senate has left one-time favorite Jane Norton petitioning to get onto the ballot, has caught the eye of South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, a formidable fundraiser for GOP candidates who is set to endorse Buck.

That’s according to Politico, which reports that DeMint is prone to spending money from his Senate Conservatives Fund on “candidates who share his conservative principles.” If such political-action-committee money should come Buck’s way, he could use it.

Norton, a former Colorado lieutenant governor, has vastly outpaced Buck in terms of raising funds. So has the sitting U.S. senator, Democrat Michael Bennet, who has announced that he’s bagged more than $1.4 million in the last quarter. That’s well above Norton’s $816,000, according to The Hill.

As for Buck and Andrew Romanoff, the former state House speaker who is challenging Bennet in a Democratic primary, both have yet to release their latest campaign-finance figures.
