As the economy continues to struggle, University of Colorado officials are bracing for millions of dollars in cuts for the 2011-12 school year.

“We are taking prudent steps to ensure we sustain our academic and research enterprises and continue to serve our students and the state,” CU President Bruce Benson says in a statement (via 9News).

The budget slashing comes despite a large tuition hike and $29 million in cuts this fiscal year. And the effects will certainly be felt around all four of CU’s campuses. In all, 338 positions could be eliminated. CU-Boulder spokesman Bronson Hilliard is unable to say which jobs are on the line.

“We’re still in the process of telling people whose jobs are being cut,” Hilliard tells the Daily Camera. “We’re in the process of finalizing the notifications.”

This latest round of budget-balancing measures comes after state legislators trimmed $50 million in support to the university. Federal stimulus funds had salvaged CU jobs before, but that money runs out next year.
