Having recently tasted the much-sought-after Blue Bell ice cream, I count myself a fan. The elusive (in Colorado, anyway) treat lived up to all the hype—as in, outside of homemade, it’s some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted.

The Texas company’s smooth and creamy recipe has more in common with frozen custard than traditional ice cream—and it’s addictive. To find Blue Bell in Denver, hit the Russell Stover Candies on South Colorado Boulevard and choose from either hand-dipped cones or take-home quarts in flavors ranging from cake batter and cookie dough to black walnut and strawberry.

Tip: A quart of the rich vanilla is just the a la mode your homemade Memorial Day pie deserves.
