Count state Senator David Schultheis among the 55 percent of Coloradans who agree with Arizona’s new immigration law, which allows police to question people they suspect might not have papers and detain those who can’t immediately prove they are in the United States legally. Moreover, Schultheis, a Colorado Springs Republican, is really upset about Boulder’s decision to ban all official city employee travel to Arizona because of the new law. He says he “just flew off the handle” when he learned about Boulder’s position and is now calling for a boycott of Boulder. “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” Schultheis says, according to the Daily Camera. “If they want to boycott Arizona, ban travel to Arizona, they need to be held to the same standard, especially when they ignore other laws, and the state of Colorado turns the other cheek.” Boulder, he adds, is a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants, implying that the place is depraved because it allows women to go topless in public and has a needle exchange program for drug addicts. Boulder City Manager Jane Brautigam has called the Arizona law “abhorrent” and says the travel ban was meant to “send a message.” Moreover, the city’s Human Relations Commission is exploring the idea of severing other business ties with public and private entities in Arizona. As for his boycott, Schultheis says, people should stop visiting or spending money in Boulder, according to the Denver Daily News.
