The Colorado Rockies are leaving San Francisco after taking two out of three games from the Giants. But, Colorado couldn’t do much last night against pitcher Matt Cain, who led his team to a 4-1 win. Cain held the Rockies to four hits over eight innings and, other than Troy Tulowitzki’s fourth-inning solo home run, didn’t allow a Rockies base runner past first base, according to  MLB.com. And, the Giants roughed up Colorado pitcher Jeff Francis for two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Despite the loss, Rockies manager Jim Tracy is satisfied with his players’ performance against their divisional rivals and an arsenal of big-game pitchers. “When you come into this ballpark where it’s tough to win to begin with, and you’re pitted against (Tim) Lincecum, (Barry) Zito, and Cain … we’re not going out of here with our heads down,” Tracy tells The Denver Post. In fact, the Rockies have gone 7-3 in the last 10 games, although they remain four games behind the first-place San Diego Padres.

Meanwhile, Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez has been named the National League Pitcher of the Month for May, marking the second consecutive month he’s earned the title. Jimenez went 5-1 with a 0.78 ERA in May, and allowed just four runs in 46 innings, reports Purple Row. 9News calls Jimenez’s first two months the best season start for a pitcher in baseball history, and his month-long dominance has helped him edge out former Arvada West star Roy Halladay, who pitched a perfect game for the Philadelphia Phillies in late May.
