Thirty-four-year-old Stephanie Rochester, who has been arrested on suspicion that she murdered her infant son, Rylan, is on suicide watch in the Boulder County Jail. Judging by her photos on a blog and entries on Facebook, she and her husband, Lloyd, were the kind of people you’d like to know. As Westword notes, last month Rochester, of Superior, wrote on Facebook that she was thinking of decorating her baby’s room and even punctuated the message with a winking-smiley face emoticon. Earlier this week, Rochester was arrested just hours after bringing an unresponsive six-month-old Rylan to a hospital in Louisville, where he was pronounced dead, according to Boulder’s Daily Camera. Rochester, a mental health counselor at Children’s Hospital, is being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, an offense that could lead to the death penalty if she is convicted. However, the county coroner’s office has not yet ruled on the cause or manner of the child’s death. Neighbors claim Rochester said she was suffering from postpartum depression and sleep deprivation. On Thursday, Rochester’s husband did not attend his wife’s court hearing. Her sister did, telling the Camera, “This is devastating,” with tears in her eyes.
