I love pizzas with toppings that transcend the expected olive-mushroom-pepperoni trio. This is why I enjoy Lala’s Wine Bar and Pizzeria, a popular restaurant in Governor’s Park that offers a long list of thin-crust creations.

My top pick is the colorful Pizza Betabel: Three white cheeses are layered with a spread of garlicky basil pesto and topped with red and gold beets, caramelized onions, baby arugula, and creamy white crumbles of goat cheese. The result is a pizza that surprises with every bite thanks to some combination of sweet, tangy, earthy, and herbacious.

Happy hour: For wine lovers, Lala’s offers a generous daily happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight, when all glasses of wine under $10 are just $5 and anything over $10 is slashed to half price.
