Jay DeVaughn, the former director of library services at the Community College of Aurora, is expected to plead guilty to threatening elected officials, consulates, and embassies around the nation by mailing white powder in envelopes. A hearing will take place in about a month, reports The Aurora Sentinel. The paper cites Jeff Dorschner, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office: “An agreement has been reached between the government and the defendant.” If the agreement sticks, 41-year-old DeVaughn, who previously pleaded not guilty to eight federal charges, could presumably spend time behind bars—although that is not yet being reported by news organizations. The Associated Press notes that the details of the plea arrangement won’t be released until a hearing in August. DeVaughn sent letters to various offices, including those of U.S. Representative Mike Coffman, a Colorado Republican, and U.S. Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions. In the letter, DeVaughn claimed the powder inside was deadly anthrax, but an investigation found the substance to be harmless.
