The past week has taken Colorado Rockies fans for a ride, from an eight-game losing streak to the sweep of the Chicago Cubs over the weekend to the worst home loss of the year Tuesday night at Coors field to the San Francisco Giants. The Rockies climbed back to another high point last night with a thrilling 6-1 win over the Giants, hopefully setting the stage for some winning stability going forward. It was a big day for several individual players, including pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez (right), who tied the franchise record with his 17th win (via The Denver Post). Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez also had a huge day, blasting two home runs and solidifying his place as one of the game’s brightest young stars. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki also went yard, knocking in his home run right after Gonzalez hit one in the sixth inning. The Rockies are still more than six games out of the division race and more than five out of the wild-card race, but yesterday’s win suggests this team may never be out of any race entirely.
