There are several interesting developments surrounding the Colorado Rockies. Perhaps the most significant is the team’s road win in New York against the Mets, something they’ve accomplished only three times since 2000.

The prospect didn’t look good early, as pitcher Jeff Francis gave up a two-run home run in the first inning, setting the stage for what could have been another deflating loss, writes The Denver Post.

But Francis found his footing and didn’t give up any more runs over the course of the game. Neither did the bullpen. The key moment came in the seventh, when Melvin Mora (pictured) came to the plate and crushed a grand slam over the left field wall, putting the Rockies up 5-2. The Rockies added one more run to get the much-needed win at 6-2.

In a strange twist, Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez was arrested at the stadium last night for allegedly punching his father-in-law in the face after the game, reports The New York Times. Rodriguez didn’t give up the grand slam to Mora—that honor went to reliever Manny Acosta—but Rodriguez wasn’t called on after Acosta, and it could have led to the argument.

Meanwhile, the Rockies have announced that infielder Omar Quintanilla is suspended for 50 games by the league after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances, according to Fox 31. Quintanilla has been a quality option for the Rockies, usually at second base, but has spent most of his time bouncing back and forth between the Rockies and the Sky Sox in Colorado Springs.
