The Colorado Rockies haven’t been mathematically eliminated from the playoff hunt this year.

But it might take a winning streak reminiscent of the magical 2007 run, in which the team won 21 of 22 games, in order for fans to enjoy watching the Rockies in some playoff baseball this year.

The Rox dropped four of six games on the most recent road trip, including two losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers last week and two losses to the decidedly terrible Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend.

The Rockies are seven games back in the division race and seven games back in the wild-card race (via MLB.com).

Yesterday’s 1-0 win in Arizona was hard to watch for anyone interested in offense, but it did feature a great pitching performance by the Rockies’ Jhoulys Chacin. The young gun went seven-and-two-thirds innings without giving up a run.

The Denver Post thinks the 22-year-old Chacin has now solidified his spot in the Rockies’ starting rotation in 2011, and Bleacher Report agrees. Chacin looks to take that spot from either Aaron Cook or Jeff Francis; neither has lived up to the team’s expectations for 2010.
