Boulder-based cycling team Garmin-Transitions has built an impressive reputation over the past few years, and it’s continuing to evolve. After announcing the team’s 2011 name change to Garmin-Cervelo last week, The Denver Post reports the addition of a new rider: Norwegian stud Thor Hushovd.

At 32 years old, Hushovd is accomplished, having won the Tour de France points title in 2005, as well as the points title at the Vuelta a España in 2006. He also won three stages in the Vuelta and one in the Giro d’Italia, and he claims an impressive 13 stage wins in Grand Tours.

VeloNation ponders potential conflicts between Hushovd and Garmin’s existing sprinter, Tyler Farrar, pointing out that they both excel at sprinting. But Hushovd isn’t worried about it.

“I chose Garmin-Cervelo because I have a lot of respect for what [CEO] Jonathan Vaughters has done for cycling, because I think we’ll have a very strong, competitive team, and because I’ll be able to to continue to work with Cervelo,” Hushovd says.

For his part, Vaughters tells Yahoo! EuroSport, “We are incredibly excited to bring Thor to the team in 2011. One of our goals is to become stronger in the Classics, and adding a world-class rider like Thor will get us there. He’s an exceptionally talented rider and a great fit for our new team.”
