Will LenDale White Stick With the Broncos?

By |

There’s been a lot of talk on the football front about coach Josh McDaniels and his desire to populate the Denver Broncos with team-first, squeaky-clean players, a trend that has seen him ship pouty quarterback Jay Cutler out of town and let baggage-heavy wide receiver Brandon Marshall head to Miami.

So McDaniels’ decision to sign former Chatfield High School star running back LenDale White to a two-year contract is somewhat surprising.

The Broncos worked out several running backs yesterday in light of preseason injuries to Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter, eventually settling on White, according to NFL. com. White (pictured) brings his big body and pounding running style to Denver, a combination that racked up 2,349 yards and 24 touchdowns with the Tennessee Titans over four years.

But there’s a reason the Broncos are White’s third team in four months. The Titans traded White to the Seattle Seahawks in a draft-day deal in April, but White lasted only a few weeks with the Seahawks after it was revealed that he would have to serve a four-game suspension to start the season because of admitted marijuana use, points out The Denver Post, which reviews the ups and downs of White’s football history.

USA Today thinks the signing is some sort of gimmick and that White will only last in Denver through the preseason. His uncle Herman White disagrees, telling the Post: “He knows that [he] has compromised his career. The Broncos understand the problems that have occurred. The league is aware of it, and the league has disciplined him. LenDale accepts it and is ready to move on.”
