The opening weekend of the 2010 NFL season is finally upon us, and as the Broncos head to steamy Florida to play the Jacksonville Jaguars, several key questions remain unanswered.

First: Who will be the team’s official backup quarterback? The Denver Post reports that coach Josh McDaniels is keeping quiet on the matter, although he says he doesn’t plan to activate all three quarterbacks.

And, will left tackle Ryan Clady’s lack of practice in training camp be an issue when the season starts? Clady and the Broncos say he’s ready to play, and as the key blocker for Orton’s blindside, he better be. AOL Fanhouse points out that Clady will be going head-to-head with the Jaguars’ Aaron Kampman, who was at one time among the most feared pass rushers in the NFL.

The Post also writes about the lingering questions as to which wide receivers will play for the team Sunday, a decision that has major implications, considering the Broncos’ lack of success running the ball in the preseason.

The team is resolving one looming defensive matter, though, by working on a contract extension for fan-favorite Champ Bailey. In another article, the Post notes that instead of letting Bailey, one of the league’s best pass defenders, test the open market at the end of the year, the Broncos will try to lock him up for another four years, which could make him the league’s third-highest-paid cornerback.
