As the days grow shorter and nights grow cooler, I find myself desperate to squeeze in every last bit of patio dining possible. Last week, I discovered the street-facing patio at House Restaurant & Bar in the Berkeley District.

Here, sitting under a canopy of leaves from decades-old silver maples, House wowed me with its super-friendly service and a diverse menu built around comforting favorites, such as bison meatloaf with sweet caramelized onions, fried chicken, creative pizzas, and tacos.

My personal standout that evening was the Rocky Mountain High salad, in which baby greens come topped with slices of pork tenderloin, fresh asparagus, roasted shallots, generous hunks of tangy goat cheese, and a light, house-made vinaigrette with toasted almonds. Best of all, the dish is rimmed with several slices of sweet, Western Slope peaches.

Bonus: When the weather turns chilly and the patio no longer beckons, House will deliver to homes in the neighborhood at no extra charge (but only from 5 to 9 p.m.).
