If you don’t know by now, Tom Tancredo’s campaign for governor has two overarching messages. The first: Republican Dan Maes should drop out of the race. Like a broken record, Tancredo, who has switched his affiliation from the GOP to the American Constitution Party in order to run for the office, has asked Maes to withdraw (via The Associated Press). But Maes once again has vowed to stay in the race.

The second message of the Tancredo campaign is that Democratic gubernatorial candidate and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper runs a “sanctuary city” for undocumented immigrants. Tancredo’s latest television commercial hammering Hickenlooper features Marat Kudlis, whose three-year-old son, Marten Kudlis, died after an undocumented immigrant smashed a truck into a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop in Aurora two years ago. Marat blames Hickenlooper’s “sanctuary policies” for not failing to turn the driver over to immigration officials after more than 15 arrests, writes Denver Daily News. Hickenlooper’s campaign says the latest claims are not true, calling them a money-making ploy by the Tancredo campaign.

Tancredo has been closing the gap in polls, but his chances remain slim, says Colorado College professor and political analyst Robert Loevy, who points out the trouble for Tancredo is Maes, who is splitting the conservative vote (via the Colorado Springs Gazette).

Meanwhile, Tancredo supporter Dog the Bounty Hunter picks Colorado to premiere the latest season of his hit A&E reality series, notes Westword.
