“This kind of terrorism has to stop,” said Boulder-based doctor Warren Hern last year after having his life threatened by Donald Hertz, who was arrested and charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (or FACE), which makes it a federal crime to injure, intimidate, or interfere with, by force or threat of force, employees of a facility that provides reproductive-health services. After all, the threats came just weeks after another doctor in the profession and a friend of Hern’s, George Tiller, was shot in Kansas.

Soon after the threats, Hertz, of Washington state, was indicted. And late last week, Hertz was sentenced to five years of probation, writes The Associated Press. Hern is believed to be the only U.S. doctor who publicly acknowledges that he performs late-term abortions.
