Officials at Denver International Airport are predicting the busiest Christmas travel week in the airport’s 15-year history. More than 1.1 million passengers will journey under DIA’s white tents (5.9 percent more than last year) over the holiday week, which officially began Tuesday, according to the Denver Business Journal. Today is expected to be one of the busiest days of that week, leaving passengers with little hope other than to greet the long lines with a positive attitude. A bit of know-how can also help, as The Denver Post points out in an article filled with helpful tips for local travelers. For instance, if you want to know how long it will take to clear the airport’s security screening, check in with flydenver.com or call 303-DIA-TIPS (303-342-8477).

If you’re headed in the opposite direction of the airport, into the high country for some snow sports, be prepared for winter weather. Call 511 for road conditions, and, as Out There Colorado suggests, load up your car with a full tank of gas and a bag of kitty litter to use for traction if the car gets stuck, along with warm clothing, water, snacks, and blankets–just in case the kitty litter doesn’t work. Of course, many offices and establishments will be closed in the days ahead. The Post has a round-up.
