Focus on the Family’s feelings toward gays and lesbians are no secret. In just one recent instance, the conservative Christian group urged Republicans to launch an investigation into the Justice Department over its handling of the legal challenges against the Defense of Marriage Act (via LGBTQ Nation). And now, as the Colorado Springs Gazette writes, Focus “may boycott” the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., next year because GOProud, a Republican group for gays and lesbians, is expected to attend. Tom Minnery, senior vice president of Focus’ lobbying arm, CitizenLink, says Focus will show up for the conference this February, but it could be the last time the Colorado Springs-based ministry will act as a sponsor of the event, which is the largest conservative gathering in the nation.

For now, Focus will attend in order to offset GoProud’s presence. “When you don’t have the influence of organizations like ours,” Minnery says, “you end up with influences from organizations like GOProud.” Other groups will boycott this year because of GOProud, including the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, American Values, and others. As for GOProud, it continues to flex its political muscle, weighing in on issues such as the new chairman of the Republican National Committee. GOProud’s recommendation for that post? “Anyone but Michael Steel” (via The Daily Caller).
