After Lance Armstrong once again retired yesterday, some were left questioning his role in the upcoming Quiznos Pro Challenge. After all, the cycling legend was instrumental in bringing the professional multi-stage race to Colorado. But Challenge co-chair Shawn Hunter assures the Denver Post Armstrong will still be involved, even if he isn’t racing.

Meanwhile, Politico weighs in on the retirement news, noting one of the main reasons Armstrong quit—besides that he’s getting older and finding it increasingly difficult to win—is to lead a political effort to fund cancer research. Armstrong will co-chair a campaign called the California Cancer Research Act initiative that would add $1 to the price of a pack of cigarettes in that state to pay for the research. Political money tracker OpenSecrets.org points out that Armstrong is no stranger to politics, spending $1.94 million on federal lobbying efforts through the Lance Armstrong Foundation since 2001.
