Just last week, legendary Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg sounded as if he wouldn’t be returning to professional hockey anytime soon. After a few initial practices with the Avs, Forsberg expressed he might be in over his head—too slow for the game after more than two years of not playing in the NHL. Despite the cautious tone, Peter the Great has decided to play for the Avs for the remainder of this season. “I don’t know how good I’m going to be. I don’t know how it’s going to go, I’m going to say that right now,” Forsberg tells the Post. It’s unclear when he’ll be on the ice, but he is currently traveling with the team.

Coach Joe Sacco says the franchise has picked up Forsberg because he can help them win, not because of fond memories (via the Associated Press). The Avs have lost five of their past six games, including Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to the Anaheim Ducks. Colorado is now in 12th place in the Western Conference, four points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the 8th and final playoff spot (via NHL.com).
