The pain of this Colorado Avalanche season is finally starting to ease a bit. Last night’s 5-4 shootout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Pepsi Center finally gives the team two consecutive victories (Mile High Hockey). The wins won’t do anything for the Avs’ long-dead playoff hopes: They’re the third-worst team in the NHL with 10 games left, but, “We’re not going to roll over and die here,” says star Matt Duchene (Denver Post). “We’re going to fight for all 82 games.” Duchene scored two third-period goals, and Milan Hejduk also came up big with the game-winning shootout goal.

Hejduk also celebrated a milestone, becoming the first to play 900 games in an Avalanche uniform (Bleacher Report). Since starting with the Avs in 1998, Hejduk has won a Stanley Cup and two Olympic medals (gold and bronze), and is the only Avs player besides Joe Sakic to score 50 goals in one season.
