Weary Colorado Avalanche fans have long been ready for this season to end, and it finally will Sunday when the Avs host the Edmonton Oilers, the only team in the NHL with a worse record. Before then, however, the Avs will play the Dallas Stars again tonight after losing to them last Thursday, when Colorado dropped its 43rd game of the year by a score of 4-2 (ESPN).

“Why should any customer shelling out big bucks for season tickets feel good about continuing to invest in a team lacking both a top goalie between the pipes and a trustworthy vision in the front office?” asks the Denver Post’s Mark Kiszla.

He’s right, but there might be at least one good reason to stick with the Avs through the weekend: Adam Foote, the only player remaining from the Stanley Cup teams, is calling it quits. He’s scheduled to announce his retirement today during an 11 a.m. press conference at the Pepsi Center (Denver Post). A nagging foot injury will keep him off the ice tonight, but he may make an appearance Sunday, potentially giving fans a positive distraction—the nostalgia of a brilliant career—from the Avs’ worst season since moving to Denver.
