Since the restaurant version of Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs opened (a week ago today), the Ballpark eatery has been flooded with sausage fans. The menu is far more extensive than owner Jim Pittenger’s carts ever could be—of course, you can still get staples like reindeer, elk-jalapeño-cheddar, and wild boar off the “old-school” section of the menu.

But it’s worth branching out to try the smoky and shockingly light (yeah, right) rattlesnake-pheasant dog topped with fiery harissa-roasted cactus, Malaysian curry jam, scallions, cilantro, and onions. Even better, go for the flight of sliders and hit three birds with one order: duck with Bordeaux reduction and diced red onion, pheasant with green-tomato-poblano chutney, and goose with cherry-cranberry balsamic reduction and fried scallions. It’s clear Pittenger is having fun.

The restaurant kitchen also allows Pittenger more freedom with sides (meaning beyond packaged chips). There’s mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes, charred tahini cauliflowers, and house-made fries and chips.

Tip: Save room for a slice of Pittenger’s cheesecake—it’s his specialty.
