It’s been real, Big 12, but it’s time to go. That’s the message the University of Colorado is sending to its longtime conference as the school comes off the final athletic event in the partnership and moves on to the sunnier and much more lucrative confines of the new Pac-12 (the school officially leaves the Big 12 on June 30). CU and the rest of the Big 12 schools—Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech—took part in the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Norman, Oklahoma, over the weekend, where CU finished 8th overall in the men’s team category and 10th overall in the women’s team category (Big12Sports.com).

Perhaps it’s fitting that CU finished in a lower-tier position, considering the school really hasn’t been a factor in the conference athletically over the last few years. It wasn’t always that way, though. The Denver Post takes a fond look back at some of the highs and lows of CU’s time in the Big 12, and Tom Kensler writes about how, despite the cold, nasty weather common on Big 12 road trips, he’s going to miss them.
