Something is awry with the Colorado Rockies. After losing the third match of a three-game series against the Diamondbacks after their final at-bat, the Rox moved on to San Francisco, where they lost the first two games of that series in the same fashion. “Losing this way, there’s no doubt that it stings,” says shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (Denver Post). The third game last night wasn’t nearly as close, with the Rockies losing 3-0 and the Giants getting the sweep (Reuters). The Rockies are 7-12 after an 11-2 start and were just 7 for 36 with runners in scoring position on the road trip before Sunday’s game (Inside the Rockies).

The Post‘s Troy Renck points out that Colorado is ahead of just four other professional teams when hitting with runners in scoring position. Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, re-signed this offseason in part due to the big-hitting ability he showed last year, admits the Rox are pressing at the plate, expecting easy hits. They’re still in first place (MLB.com), but the Giants are nipping at their heels, just one game back in the National League West.
