When Colfax Avenue was still a dirt road, City Floral Garden Center began peddling cut flowers—quite literally—to Denver’s green thumbs: The Lammermann family delivered violets to the Brown Palace via bicycle. One hundred years later, the Mayfair-neighborhood staple has, er, blossomed to a full-service garden center, open year-round and complete with oodles of roses, landscape services, and custom potting. But what we love most is that the staff always has an answer to our gardening conundrums, such as plants that thrive in Denver’s clay soil.
