Ahh, the Pop-Tart…those cardboardy rectangles take me right back to childhood. As an adult, I don’t especially love the treat, but each time I come across a recipe for the pastry or spy one in a bakery case, nostalgia tugs at me. And so it went at Sugar Bakeshop on Broadway. There, on display near the cash register (to capitalize on impulse buys, perhaps?), were two renditions: cherry and Nutella. I bought them both.

Thanks to pieces of fruit inside the crust and a sweet glaze of icing, the cherry was the better of the two, but on both I found the pastry too thick. This resulted in a very dry, I-need-a-glass-of-milk-now experience with the Nutella. Even so, I finished them both.

Not seduced by Pop-Tarts? Pick up a chewy, pretzel-butterscotch-chocolate-chip cookie instead.
