The fashion world has long been focused on slim women, but Denver-based designer Anne Fanganello wants to broaden the options with AnnaFesta, her line for curvy girls. “When I worked in New York for high-end designers [Zac Posen, Nanette Lepore], I was the big girl at a size 10/12,” she says. But 18 years spent overseeing production gave Fanganello the know-how to produce designer creations in her own size—a luxury most women don’t have.

To flatter fuller figures, Fanganello focuses on the details, like adjusting seams, lengths, and placement of embellishments to create a slimmer look. Her fall 2012 collection underscores her flair for color with tangerine-, eggplant-, and raspberry-hued fabrics. But Fanganello is aiming for something more than just wardrobe variety: fostering positive body image. “Inner beauty shows through when we have something on that makes us feel beautiful,” she says. “That’s everyone’s best accessory.”
