The funky-cool City O’ City on Capitol Hill has a loyal following of fans drawn to the restaurant’s extensive vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menu. On my last visit, however, an evening on which I donned my long wool coat for the first time this fall, I deviated from these selections and went straight for a warm and filling pizza. My choice? The 12-inch, six-slice La Chagall, a sweet and savory pie layered with thick and gooey Brie, sweet apricot preserves, briny green olives, and roasted garlic.

The dense, cheesy sweetness of the pizza was nicely balanced by the light, chewy crust and salty olives. When it arrived, I swore I’d take half home. By the end of dinner, there was nothing left—but I was warm and ready to step outside again.

Bonus: Save room for a chocolate cupcake—all of City O’ City’s desserts are made by WaterCourse vegan bakery.
