“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”—Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On January 21, Americans will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. And while many of us will have time off from work, the day is the only federal holiday observed as a National Day of Service, which means you shouldn’t sit on the couch.

Denver hosts one of the nation’s largest King celebrations. This year’s Marade (March and Parade), is expected to attract more than 30,000 participants. The Marade begins at at City Park at 9 a.m., and ends two miles away at Civic Center Park. After the festivities, make sure to donate some time in your community. Last year, more than 2,000 Coloradans volunteered at 65 service projects, doing everything from delivering meals to organizing a statewide book drive. What better way to honor King’s life than by carrying on his legacy of service to others?
