As part of a whole-house remodel, this kitchen got a bold new look (bye-bye, blue tile) courtesy of Denver kitchen designers Jed MacKenzie and William Landeros of Bulthaup—the German kitchen manufacturer known for its clean, modern style. “We wanted to transform the space but maintain warmth and add fun finishes, so it’s not too sleek and boring,” says Landeros. Mission accomplished. Here’s how.

_____

1. Seating: Two red Marview Lounge Chairs from McGuire ($1,495 each, mcguirefurniture.com)make the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of tea or visit with the homeowners while they cook.

2. Space: The fridge is close to two prep areas, making it easily accessible for both cooks. There are dishwashers next to each of two sinks, and the Wolf range has generous space on both sides.

3. Materials: The island is covered in a Calcutta Gold marble slab, and the backsplash is matching marble tile. The rest of the countertops are Caesarstone, paired with cabinets in cool alpine white matte lacquer.

4. Bar: The sculptural bartop, made of olive wood, provides seating that allows guests to chat with one another across the top—rather than sitting side by side.

5. Lighting: The single, eye-catching light fixture from Flos—called Skygarden ($2,295, flosusa.com)—combines a sleek bronze exterior with an ornate interior of plaster flowers. “You look into it, and it’s like a gift,” Landeros says. “Surprise!”
