Must Do: Colorado Wine Week

Like buying local? Like sipping wine? Well, then, Colorado Wine Week is your type of event. The seven-day celebration of our grape industry gets the party started on Sunday, June 2, with Farm-to-Turntable at the Universal. Look for a deejay spinning tunes while restaurants, including Highland Tap & Burger, Slotted Spoon, Black Pearl, and (of course) the Universal, cook for the local wine–swilling crowd.

The premise of the week is to educate consumers on Colorado’s exciting—and growing—wine industry. Did you know that Boulder is home to some of the state’s best winemakers? Or that one of the world’s highest vineyards is located near Paonia (Terror Creek Winery sits at 6,417 feet). Or that both Riesling and Pinot Noir grow well in our state. Yes, yes, and yes. There are dozens of more reasons to check out Colorado Wine Week, including the Sips and Snacks component. All week long, restaurants—from the Squeaky Bean and Mizuna to D Bar and Corner House—will serve appetizers paired with local wines.

The celebration culminates with Urban Winefest at Infinity Park on Saturday, June 8. At the bash, winemakers will open hundreds of bottles for tasting and local restaurants (including Root Down, Row 14, Restaurant 1515, and Jonesy’s EatBar) will conduct cooking demonstrations and seminars.

Don’t Miss: On Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., six of Denver’s best bartenders (including Green Russell‘s Adam Hodak, Steuben’s Randy Layman, and Colt & Gray‘s Kevin Burke) will gather at Green Russell to create cocktails featuring Colorado wines. I’m judging—come on by.
