This year marks the 40th anniversary of the University of Colorado Denver, one of the three colleges that operate in downtown Denver. It’s been an eventful year for the University. In February, it welcomed it’s first ever mascot, Milo the lynx, and then started construction of a CU Denver-owned building at Speer and Larimer streets. The building is scheduled to open in 2014 and will exclusively serve CU Denver students.

Help the university celebrate by heading to the Auraria campus on August 22 for the University of Colorado Denver Block Party. The event is ’70s themed (an ode to the campus opening in 1973) and will have food trucks, live music headlined by local funk group Boogie Machine, a T-shirt dying station, and a costume competition. The festivities are open to the public, so bring your favorite peace sign accessory and don’t forget to grab a complimentary pet rock while you’re there.

When: August 22, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Where: CU Denver’s Education Corridor, on Lawrence Street between 14th and 15th streets. (Lawrence will be closed in this area from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.)
