If there’s one thing Denverites can agree on, it’s that a Colorado summer is something to behold. The mountain peaks call to us—without requiring 10 layers of Patagonia. The billy goats roam. The thunderstorms roll in, welcome respites from the blistering heat.

One hundred years ago, our city recognized the importance of preserving these peaks and making them accessible for recreational exploring, thus Denver Mountain Parks was born. A century later, the organization is celebrating with the release of Denver Mountain Parks: 100 Years of the Magnificent Dream. The coffee table book ($39.95) is both a historical record of the mountain park system—which includes Winter Park Resort, Red Rocks, Buffalo Bill’s grave, and more—and a guidebook. It’s all accompanied by master nature photographer John Fielder‘s stunning landscape shots.

Buy the book online or at area retailers. Proceeds help continue Denver’s tradition of protecting and embracing the natural wonders we’re all so blessed to be surrounded by.
