Great American Beer Fest will be here soon enough, but the Denver Beer Fest kicks off this Friday with more than 100 beer-y events smattered throughout the metro area. Whether you were lucky enough to snag GABF tickets in the minutes before they sold out or not, here is a handful of happenings everyone can check out this week.

Asher Brewing Co. Tours, October 5, 6, and 12, 4 p.m.

Go if: You love the environment as much as you love beer. This Boulder brewery and tasting room is 100-percent wind powered.

Sierra Nevada Mixology Competition, October 7, 7 p.m.

Go if: You are an inspiring mixologist. Ten of Denver’s best will be competing for a trip to Sierra Nevada’s Brewery in Chico, California and the audience gets to judge.

One Flew Over the Barleywine, October 10, 6-9:30 p.m.

Go if: You are curious what barleywine is. Hint: It is British and highly alcoholic.

German Beer Brunch with Prost Brewing at Lou’s Food Bar, October 12, 11:30 a.m.

Go if: You couldn’t make it to Munich this September.

Bluegrass and Oskar Blues, October 4, 7 p.m.

Go if: You like beer and history. The Boulder History Museum takes you all the way from pre-prohibition to today’s craft brew haven.

 Go if: Nothing sounds better to you after a grueling day of GABF than some Avery brews and Euclid Hall comfort food.
