Where: Great American Beer Festival, Denver

What: Whenever an imbiber drops their tasting glass in the GABF convention hall, the entire place roars out approval (or disapproval). If it happens to you—say, when you are juggling a purse and a camera and a tasting glass—several strangers are likely to stop and give you tips about how to hold your liquor. (In our experience, though, they do not provide help in holding your purse.)

Overheard: Here, a few other soundbites from the GABF crowds.

“It’s like salmon swimming upstream.” (Said as someone fought through the line at the entrance)

“The lighting in here blows.”

“Oh my God, they have Miller Lite!”

“It could be a lot worse.” (Said after tasting a beer)

“This beer got ruined because we just got crop dusted by some dude.”

“It’s a barnyard-y saison-y”

“You have to try that beer over there. It’s awful.”
