After a three-week closure in which Satchel’s on 6th remodeled its 1,200-square foot space, the restaurant has reopened. Red metal chairs, simple pine tables, and raw brick walls have been replaced with burgundy banquettes; cane-topped bar stools; and textured, cream-colored coats of paint. The two interiors are very different looks, and customers are likely to have a strong opinion about whether they prefer the utilitarian original or the brasserie-like replacement. But if last week’s sales are any indication, there is no shortage of curious diners eager to decide for themselves. “Last week was the biggest week we’ve done since we first opened [this location in April of 2011],” owner Andrew Casalini says.

Upholstered bentwood chairs aren’t the only reason for the uptick. Upon reopening, Satchel’s also debuted a new bar program complete with a full liquor license. The Country Club restaurant now serves several house cocktails and Champagne based-tipples—such as the Remy, named for a regular and made with California bubbly, Angostura bitters, a sugar cube, and a lemon twist—alongside a more longstanding wine and beer list.

Mark your calendar: To celebrate, the neighborhood eatery is hosting a spelling bee (free of charge) on Saturday, November 16, beginning at 8 p.m. Think eighth grade auditorium meets college drinking game meets Soul recital: Also new with the remodel, Casalini now spins old-school records like Curtis Mayfield’s Super Fly soundtrack.
