Just in time to test your New Year’s resolve, Voodoo Doughnut is open and peddling its addictive wheels of deliciousness in crazy, trend-setting flavor combinations. In a bit of marketing genius, co-owners Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon built their trademark bubble-gum pink shop on busy Colfax Avenue, mirroring the funky, urban locations of their famous shops in Portland and Eugene, Oregon.

Stake out your spot in the ever-present (read: long) line, and add your two cents to the buzz as fellow doughnut lovers wax ridiculous over their favorite flavors. There’s the wildly popular Bacon Maple Bar, made with thick strips of hickory-smoked bacon and loads of creamy maple frosting; the Captain My Captain, which includes vanilla “milk” frosting and a riot of Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries; and the Voodoo Bubble with pink bubblegum dust and a piece of Dubble Bubble. Or keep it traditional with the shop’s signature Voodoo Doll, a raised yeast bar in the shape of a voodoo doll with chocolate frosting, raspberry filling, and a pretzel stake through the side.

Voodoo followers may be disappointed to discover that the Denver location, unlike the Oregon shops, does not serve beer. Instead, Voodoo pours a more classic pairing: smooth Novo coffee.

Tip: Along with your cravings, bring plenty of cash for the resolution-busting sugar spree, as Voodoo does not accept credit.
