The bed in the middle of the dining room may be missing from the second outpost of the 9th Door, but most everything else is intact at Bill Kennedy’s sexy tapas spot at the Beauvallon. The Spanish restaurant’s ambience still speaks to the romantic with red chandeliers running down the center of the dining room, a rustic exposed brick bar, and plush banquettes.

Meanwhile, bold flavors ring true on the same small plates menu that turned the LoDo location into an instant hit. Don’t miss the tender filet con Cabrales, a dish of beef medallions ladled with a smooth Rioja reduction, topped with blue cheese sauce, and accompanied by buttery fried potatoes. Or, opt for the mussels with sofrito sauce, an item that appears on the chalkboard of ever-changing specials. A must-have finish is the delicate lemon-rosemary flan.

Across the menu, dishes draw on the diverse flavors and textures inspired by the Moors, Arabs, Greeks, Romans, Jews, and Asians who peppered Spain’s cultural past. The sultry effect makes the 9th Door the perfect place for date night.
