In Bloom

Is it finally time to play outdoors again? We think so. These blooming florets, spotted last week during a stroll through Civic Center Park, reminded us that the city itself is opening up for summer season—and we can’t wait. Itching to get outside, too? Try the park’s new (free) outdoor fitness classes. —Jerilyn Forsythe

In Bloom

Spring has sprung for Denver’s fashionistas. The 3rd annual In Bloom fashion show is this Saturday night at Beyond nightclub, with the latest funky spring fashions from indie designers and music from Friends in Stereo, DJ Tommy B, and Chi Chi on percussion. It’s sponsored by Image, a downtown zine owned by Greg Bloom, who told me it’s their biggest event of the year.

“What started as a play on words using my last name as a coincidence with an act of spring, has sprouted into it’s 3rd year as one of the best fashion events and most energetic dance parties of the year,” he said today via e-mail.

And for fans of Beyond nightclub, it may be the final event held in the club’s current incarnation. After a shooting in a parking lot along the 16th St. Mall in early April was connected to the club, management at the Denver Pavilions decided — along with club owner Curt Sims — that it’s time for the club to make some changes. I’ve heard that the space has already been gutted and remodeling has begun, and the rumor mill is pointing toward a “country rock” theme for the new club, though neither Sims nor the Pavilions will confirm that particular rumor.

Either way, I’ll be heading down Saturday to scope out both the changes at the club (and snoop for clues to the country-bar mystery) and the spring fashions on the runway.
