The Perfect Picnic for $25 from Spinelli’s Market

City Park is aptly named because so many Denverites spend time there during the summer months between City Park Jazz, trips to the zoo, or pedal boating around Ferril Lake. And, if spending time in City Park is a rite of summer, picking up picnic supplies from Spinelli’s Market in Park Hill is too. For two decades, owners Jerry and Mary Ellen Spinelli helmed this tiny, Italian-inspired grocery and deli. In April, though, they sold the business to brothers John and Ted Moutzouris (who also own Pete’s Fruit and Vegetables in Hilltop). We stopped by this week to see if Spinelli’s is still one of our favorite—and affordable—spots to stock up for an alfresco dinner.

The Goods:

1. Muffaletta Sandwich (Mortadella, Salami, Provolone, and olive tapanade on an Italian Roll)

Save money by ordering only one sandwich; these behemoths are made for sharing. Bonus: Each sandwich comes with a pickle and a choice of potato salad or a piece of fruit.
