We like your style, Kentucky. You’ve got a penchant for whiskey; we here in Colorado have been known to distill a few bottles. You birthed bluegrass music; we’ve helped raise it. Hunter S. Thompson cut his teeth in Louisville before “settling down” in our state.

And then there’s the Kentucky Derby. The hats, the horses, the mint juleps—it’s vintage Kentucky, the Colorado equivalent of dressing in North Face, drinking craft beer, and watching downhill skiing. (Say, that’s not a bad idea…)

Out of context, of course, it’s just a great theme party. That works for us, too. Below, our roundup of Denver’s Derby parties this coming weekend.

The Corner Office Denver Derby Party sold out? You can watch the action from the street at The Corner Office, which will be hosting its own derby party just across the street from the big screen at the Performing Arts center. Wear a derby hat and get a free Bellini, or if you’re hungry, try their take on the Hot Brown, a signature sandwich of Louisville. Sat, all day; 1401 Curtis St.

Talk Derby To Me As is clear from its dubstep-laden promo video, Talk Derby To Me isn’t your grandpa’s derby party. Bar Car will boast three live bands—That Damn Sasquatch, The Goonies, and Tomahawk Fox—a pizza eating contest, and commemorative tin cups with every purchase of a Maker’s Mark mint julep. Oh, and the race. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Sat, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. 819 Colorado Blvd.

Jockeys, Juleps & Jazz For a classy take on the derby party, swing by the Brown Palace for Jockeys, Juleps & Jazz. The reception will feature live and silent auctions (prizes include a seven-night beach getaway), a simulcast of the Kentucky Derby and Oaks races, and a photo booth so you can remember how suave you looked with that bowler and cane. The event will benefit the Mylifeline.org Cancer Foundation. Sat, 2 p.m.-6 p.m.; 321 17th St.

Viewhouse Double-down on your revelry as the Viewhouse hosts a derby and Cinco de Mayo party simultaneously. While the main space throws its fiesta, the auxiliary bar will show the races and sling the mint juleps. If you’re feeling lucky, enter the drawing to win two tickets to the 2015 Kentucky Derby. Sat 10 a.m.-2 a.m.; 2015 Market St.
