Last-minute boozy bring-alongs to summer gatherings often result in a quick stop at the liquor store on the way to the party—and leaving with the same old go-to beer you bought last time. And while wheats and light ales are popular warm-weather standbys, they don’t always impress the tastebuds. Recently, I found myself perusing a liquor store aisle for a quick party favor, and hoping I’d find something new and different to bring along. The clean, smart design of Aspen Brewing’s This Season’s Blonde label caught my eye, so I grabbed a sixer and headed out. When I cracked open the can, comfortably lounging in a backyard chair on a cool, summer evening, I was not disappointed—and neither was anyone else who sipped on the classic ale. Much like its packaging, the brew is crisp, clean, and dynamic. It packs a punch with the notable presence of both malts and hops, and flavorful hints of banana, wheat, and clove. Despite its name, This Season’s Blonde is a year-round beer—which is great, because it’s one ale that could probably hold its own during colder months.

Would we buy it again? This is a six-pack to grab when you’re looking for a sessionable summer beer that brings more to the table.
