Homegrown's melon salad

Go Now: Homegrown Tap & Dough

|

A neighborhood pizza place is destined to be filled with families and children. And so it goes at Homegrown Tap & Dough on South Gaylord. But what this six-week-old spot does especially well is cater to the whole family. Here, pizza is the obvious choice (the kid-friendly margarita costs $10 and at 12-inches, it’s big enough for parents to steal a piece) but the eatery also bolsters the menu with more grown-up choices. Nudge your little ones into something more adventurous like the Weekend Warrior with pepperoni, smoked mozzarella, pepperoncini, and oregano.

Or skip the pizza altogether in favor of the quinoa salad. The delicious tumble of almonds, cucumber, avocado, apples, golden raisins, arugula, and lemon could easily sit in as a meal (it’s the avocado that elevates this salad beyond a side dish). The eatery also pays attention to the seasons with dishes that tie into of-the-moment produce: The white Wash Park pizza stars zucchini, along with roasted garlic, spinach, ricotta, Parmesan, and chile flakes; and the melon salad (pictured) capitalizes on late-summer’s fragrant fruit. Cantaloupe and prosciutto are a classic Italian pairing, and Homegrown dresses up the combination by adding arugula, Parmesan, slivers of onion, and a balsamic drizzle. This starter is best shared around the table.

Sip this: Homegrown offers a hearty list of 21 craft beers on tap. Don’t miss Crooked Stave’s puckery Surette. The Denver-brewed saison is the perfect sip as we move into fall.
