Oct 2–4 Boulder Adventure Film Festival
Boulder celebrates the 10th anniversary of this three-day film festival with a collection of outdoor and environmental short and long films, plus filmmaker workshops, gear giveaways, and an Adventure Street Fair.

Oct 10–12 Telluride Horror Show
Get your spook on a little early at this four-year-old film festival, which features more than 50 sci-fi, fantasy, and horror flicks at the historic Sheridan Opera House and Nugget Theatre.

Oct 11 & 12 Punkin’ Chunkin’ Colorado
Lockheed Martin’s rocket scientists have nothing on the engineers behind Aurora’s annual pumpkin flinging contest. From catapults to slingshots, these gourd-hucking masterpieces toss pumpkins more than a mile at times. Our suggestion: Get there early to avoid parking nightmares.

Oct 24–26 Still on the Hill
Breckenridge’s fifth annual craft spirits festival brings nearly 30 distilleries to town for a weekend of tasting, pairings, and, of course, competitions.

Oct 25 Emma Crawford Coffin Races
More than 50 teams race through Manitou Springs in homemade coffin cars at this popular 20-year-old festival.

Through Oct 31 Frederika Fall Festival
You could potentially hike 3.5 miles before you find your way through Avondale’s 10-acre corn maze. If you’ve still got energy when you’re done, try out the pumpkin-tossing trebuchet.
